Among the early general-fiction pulps were The All-Story, The Argosy, The Blue Book Magazine, The Cavalier, The Popular Magazine and The Scrap Book. The notable specialized pulps included Science and Invention, Thrill Book and Weird Tales.
The first science-fiction pulp magazine was not published until 1926, and only become widely viable when the payments to writers by general pulps dropped to 1 1/2 cents a word. Even then, the pulp giants, such as Clayton, Street & Smith and Standard, accounted for only a small percentage of the overall scifi market. It was only with the post-WWII paperback boom that scifi publication became big business.
